Looking for a new, light-weight digital camera to snap those candid shots of your friends and family? Looking for a digital camera with a great amount of megapixels? What about a camera that's small enough to toss in your purse or pocket? Then look no further! The Kodak EasyShare Z885 digital camera may just be the camera for you.

For years I've been carrying around a camera that use to be top of the line back in 2004. Unfortunately, a 3.1 megapixal camera is no longer top of the line, so I wanted something better. I received just that for Christmas 2007-- my EasyShare Z885!

While this camera is perfect for me, it may not be perfect for everyone. There are a few pros and cons to this camera and how it functions. Here are the ones that I felt were most important.

PROS:

The amount of megapixels in this camera helps you create some of the most beautiful, crisp, and clean images ever. At 8.1 megapixels, you won't have to worry about not being able to see the blue eyes of your child or the lovely sunset behind the mountain peaks. Your photos will come out just as lovely as the moment they were taken.

One of my favorite features on this camera is the Undo Delete selection. Have you ever accidentally deleted something that you wanted to keep? All you could do was regret the mistake and move on, but not anymore! The Kodak EasyShare 885 has an Undo Delete selection that will allow you to immediate reverse an accidental deletion. This feature could be a lifesaver!

My all-time most favorite feature on the Kodak EasyShare Z885 is that it has the ability to zoom in and out DURING video recording. I love that! My old camera would only allow you to zoom before and after recording a video -- not during. So I was thrilled to find that the new Z885 did this. What a wonderful thing for those of us who love to take family videos.

The Z885 is a lovely looking camera. It has a lightweight, sleek design that makes the camera easy to take along anytime. This camera will fit into your purse, coat pocket, and even your pants pocket. It comes equipped with a large, 2.5 inch, color, viewfinder screen.

CONS:

My main complaint about the Kodak EasyShare Z885 is that there isn't a traditional viewfinder. The color screen is the only thing that you can use to line up your shots. This isn't really a big deal until you are outside on a bright, sunny day and you can't see a thing on the screen.

This camera has so many features and functions that it eats AA batteries like they are camera candy. I usually use CRV-3 batteries in my digital cameras, but the Kodak EasyShare Z885 came with two AA digital camera batteries. Well, those batteries were dead in a matter of a week. I've had the camera for about two months now and I've gone through four sets of two since those that came with the camera. I will be purchasing a new CRV-3 for my Kodak EasyShare Z885.

This last con is more of an annoyance. The Kodak EasyShare Z885 does not come with the AV-TV cable that is used to attach the camera to your television. My old Kodak EasyShare came with this cable, and I used it often. But, the new Z885 does not; you'll have to order one from the Kodak website or I've found quite a few of them on eBay.

In the end, the Kodak EasyShare Z885 is an all-around great camera. It's great for the point-and-shoot photographers among us. But, it's also great for those of us who like a little freedom in our photography. This camera has loads of options and a lot of ways for you to create just the image that you want. You'll want to watch your battery usage, stay out of the glaring sunlight if you want to see the screen, and spend a little more money if you want to hook the camera to your television.

I do love my camera, and I'm thrilled with the photo quality it gives me, but with the $200 price tag I probably would have looked a little closer at other cameras if I had known what I know today.

The fun and hectic days of summer are upon us, and that means taking lots of photos at backyard barbecues, days at the beach, camping trips and other fun outdoor activities.

But just because it's bright and sunny out doesn't mean every photo is guaranteed to turn out right.

In fact, summer photography comes with challenges - a glaring sun, blinding reflections from the water, just to name a few.

Here are three great tips for taking great photos this summer.

Tip #1: Use a fill flash. We've all done it. You find the perfect backdrop and you position your subject in front of it, delighted you're going to end up with the perfect photo. Then, when you go to review your shot, you see that your subject is dark because your camera lens was facing towards the sun.

How do you solve this problem? Well, you can try repositioning your subject, though oftentimes this isn't possible without completely spoiling the shot you intended to get. Or, you could come back at another time, but this is most often not possible.

There are easy ways to get light onto your subject. One can be achieved by using a fill flash.

To fill in the subject with your camera flash, you'll need to be able to set the f-stop on your camera. First, take a reading with the light meter built into your camera. Be sure that your shutter speed is slower than, or equal to, your flash's sync speed. Then, go ahead and set your flash so it exposes at an f-stop 1 or 2 stops larger than the f-stop you set on the camera (you are opening up the lens, so more light gets in).

Tip #2: Use reflectors. Fill flash isn't the only way to bounce light onto the front of your subject. You can also buy reflectors at a photographic store, or you can make them yourselves using white cardboard. You'll have to experiment with how much light to reflect back onto your subject, so be ready to take a couple of different exposures on the same settings.

Tip #3: Handling bright reflections off the water. First, try a polarizing filter. It could reduce or completely eliminate the problem. It will also deepen the colors of the sky, trees, grass, etc. You will need to experiment a bit with your polarizing filter, but the results will be well worth it. The filter reduces overall light reaching the camera, so you will need to adjust your f stop accordingly.

Also, glaring water surfaces may require taking a little more time with metering. For example, if you're trying to capture sea foam on the waves as they break and the water is dark, try reducing the exposure by one stop. You can do this by reducing the f stop or reducing the shutter speed. If your subject is darker than the surrounding water (or other glaring surface) you can take your meter reading close up on your darker subject, and then step back to take the picture, overriding your camera's automatic setting with the reading you got close up.

Put these three tips to use, and you'll see a lot more of your summer time photos turn out the way you want. Of course, experimentation is the key. Don't be afraid to try a lot of different exposures. You'll be glad you did when you get the one shot everyone wants.

Upon my recommendation my son-in-law purchased his about 1 month later but from Costco. We both were amazed at the performance of this camera. It was all that we expected and more. About 14 months of use I started to have a strange "black screen" at start up. This problem would come and go and at times it would only happen at start up and the camera would perform perfectly for hours of shooting. About two months after my problem started my son -in law's camera also started to exhibit the "exact" same problem He had purchased his camera from Costco. As time went on it became apparent that a serious flaw in this camera was starting to creep in and after researching this issue I decided to check with Canon. There service department said that they knew of no serious flaw in the S2 and offered to repair it for $127 since it was out of warranty by 8 months. My son -in-laws cameras also started to go down hill and he also notified Canon and received the same response. Canon's attitude is that this "black screen" problem at start up is just one of those product failures that happen with all brands of cameras. I agreed that since there warranty is for one year that any product that fails after that would not be covered unless there "failure" rate on a particular model is was above industry levels but to have TWO cameras failing at almost the same time with the EXACT same problem is pretty coincidental. Plus research on the net indicates many of these S2's failing with almost the EXACT same issue "black screen" at start up. Before any one buys the Canon S2 they better research the forums and decide if they want to chance buying this camera. I give it 5 stars for performance and 0 stars for reliability. I am sure that there are many S2's that do not have this problem but I also believe that there is an "abnormally high" fail rate for this camera. I worked in Aerospace Quality Control for 12 years and it is my guess that the failure rate on this camera is way to high for the price and brand name (Canon). For those of you that have had the same problem tell Amazon & Canon what you feel and maybe down the road there will be a recall.
Customer Review: Dreaded E18 Error
After 16 months, my camera stopped working. The lens does not retract and I am getting the E18 error. Canon wants me to pay to repair because I am outside the 12 month warranty period. I am extremely disappointed.

Isn't great when you find that one of your photographs has been absolutely outstanding and everyone comments on it. It can be frustrating when that happens but you don't know how you did it. Learning some techniques can help change all that and almost ensure that almost all your future shots are amazing and good on a regular basis.

Photography Lighting Techniques

Lighting can be either your best friend or worst enemy. Photography lighting techniques can be as simple or as complex as you want. It will depend on what you are shooting. Maybe you want to take photos of cityscapes at night or photos in full sunlight - for good results you will need to understand good photography lighting techniques. Once you understand the basics of photography lighting techniques you will transform your photos into works of art.

Indoor Lighting Photography Techniques

There are different types of lighting you can use for indoor shots. Try using natural lighting that comes from windows, ceiling lights, candles, log fires, and any other indoor lighting. Many photographers use this to give a natural feel to their work. Often, though, there may not be enough natural light indoors. If this is the case, take a tip from portrait photography lighting techniques. Portrait photographers use big lights to flood their subject for the best results. The good thing is you can experiment with the light you have indoors.

Try taking a photo of your subject in different parts of the room using different types of lighting. This will give you an idea of what works. Experiment with the early morning sun streaming through the window then try backlighting the same subject and see the different effects. Indoor lighting subjects include a whole host of techniques and methods. It will become a natural instinct the more you play around with different effects.

Black and White Photography Techniques

Black and white photography techniques can produce some really nice results. If you are using a digital SLR camera, you will most likely have the option to capture your photos in black and white mode. Don't use this mode. Use full colour so you get the full depth of light and shade. Use a photo manipulation program like Adobe Photoshop to transform your image into black and white. If you were just using black and white, you would not have the flexibility to manipulate and play with the output that you now can.

Side lighting is a great way to include fabulous outcomes and effects to black and white photographs. Side lighting will create shadows on ordinary objects and give them a different perspective. This is an effective black and white photography technique that has great results on objects that are highly textured. Experiment by changing the camera angle and different lighting techniques. Use side lighting to enhance your black and white landscapes, people and buildings.

Street Photography Techniques

Street photography can produce some amazing results. They are shots of day to day occurrences; moments in time captured outdoors. A good technique is to sit, watch and listen; focus on what is happening around you. See the world differently. There is nothing more interesting than a candid shot of a moment in time. Here are some street photography techniques that may help you when out on the street:

- Tune into your surroundings. Learn to sense moments of climax such as laughter or loud voices.

- Be relaxed and enjoy your surroundings.

- Use crowded places you can walk in and out of to get your candid street shots.

- Don't be invasive of people's personal space, try using a zoom lens. This will not always work and you can lose some of the emotion you are trying to capture.

- Practice taking shots spontaneously or without raising the camera up to face. Practice taking photos from any position.

There is so much to learn about photography and, the more you learn the more addictive photography becomes.

Roy Barker has provided this site which he commonly refers to for tips on photography techniques.
Electric Mower

Posted by cannon-digital-cameras at 10:51 PM 1 comment:

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Brown)

8.0-megapixel effective recording * 2-1/2" color LCD s * real image optical zoom viewfinder * 3X optical zoom (4X digital/12X total zoom) * optical image stabilization * 35mm equivalent lens focal length: 38-114mm * top JPEG resolution: 3264 x 2448 *
Customer Review: What you expect from Canon: Quality
Nice camera, the images focus much faster than on a camera twice as expensive, such as the S3IS. It's resolution makes the photos look great. Nice little camera, fun to take around, and images are great. However, i won't be rushing to replace my 30d with it though.
Customer Review: Novice using Canon SD1100
This is my first digital camera. I bought it to record my family vacation in Yellowstone. I also bought a 2Gig memory card ( $25) and a second replaceable battery ($8 + 10 S&H). I basically shot all pictures in M2 mode ( middle resolution), in automatic. I was surprized to find I could take about 2000 pictures ( many more than I had expected) with this memory card. During the week in Yellowstone I took over 200 pictures. They all look great on my 19 in LCD monitor. I never had to change batteries. ( I did turn the camera off when ever I was not using it). The camera has a lot of features that I have not learned to use yet. I did use the "indoor" feature to shoot the hotel room and the inside of Old Faithful Inn. The are also lots of other modes that I have not tried ( pets, fireworks, night time, etc ). If I had wanted to I could have gone to the trouble of making panoramic picutes by "stiching" automatically linked pictures. This seems too much trouble from my snapshoots. It did a great job for what I wanted. Out of the box ( mostly) point and shoot. I did have to read about 20 pages in the manual to get the basics and I did have to load software into my computer and learn the right settings to more pictures from the camera to the computer. But everything was pretty simple.

These days, many people can be noticed sharing a common interest of capturing the cherished moments of their lives. They really believe in having special moments of their lives preserved so that they can get back to them somewhere in their future. Its human nature to socialise and one always wishes to stay in touch with his loved ones. He always need someone to be beside him, who can listen when he wants to speak and speak when he wants to listen. He tends to share everything with them.

Gone are those days when people had to spend a good deal of time in sending their images to their relatives. Nowadays, they can, besides sending the pictures to their relatives, simultaneously watch their reactions as well. With the help of modern technology, people have now become liberal enough to send their images while chatting with them.

In this way, the users can save a lot of their precious time. Photo sharing has always been favourite activity of numerous people. Various sites are available on the Internet in which the user can upload photos. But, most of the times, people dodge away this activity. The main reason behind this is the privacy factor. They think that their privacy is at stake as any third person can get into the conversation via illegal means. These days, social networking sites guarantee full safety of the user's profile and his files uploaded on them. These days, people are provided with full safety guarantee. He gets to have his privacy fully secured.

Today, almost everyone indulges in online communities and also tries his hands at photo sharing. He can safely share his pictures with his loved ones without any indulgence of any undesired person. Moreover, sharing pictures has become much convenient task now. The user is just one click away from his friend or relative and another click away from the photo sharing process.

It does happens many times that the quality of the images deteriorates. But these days people can easily share their images without caring about their quality. This relieves the user from another problem that he may face during photo sharing.

Moreover, the person can also get involved in group sharing very easily. He can share same photos with numerous people simultaneously. He can however, control the amount as well as the entry of people he wants to get involved in photo sharing. Also, the person can also categorise his photos according to the occasion or the event. He can form different albums according to the subject of the photos thus, adding to the convenience of the viewer. He can take the feedback about the photos from his akin then and there.

Photo sharing has gained much popularity these days. It has become a way of showcasing talents as well. People who are proficient at it try to show their work through these networking sites only. Moreover, people who appreciate good work get to see the desired work on uploaded photos. One does not need to put in much efforts to share photos. He just needs to put these photos online and invite the users he wants to show the photos to. The process has been further simplified by the user friendly interface of various sites like AOL, Yahoo etc. Further, his privacy is also secured here. He need not worry about the picture quality and group sharing is an added advantage to this process. Thus, photo sharing has become more of fun than a tiresome job and the editing options like white balance, flip, rotate in some of the site add more excitement to it.

Capture your memories and share photos online with the world at one of the best entertainment portal YouTring
Digital Cameras

Posted by cannon-digital-cameras at 2:36 AM No comments:

Monday, November 24, 2008

Canon PowerShot A580 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom

The Canon PowerShot A580 offers high-quality stills and movies with unsurpassed simplicity. This camera has all of these features. Because I have used Canon cameras in the past, the dials and buttons are almost intuitive now although there are some differences which were easy to learn. Adjusting for light variation in the shot (light background and dark foreground) was difficult to do quickly. Fortunately, one can easily make adjustments on the computer using Adobe Photo Shop (the less expensive version). I would recommend a larger SD memory card than the one provided or the maximum available through Canon (512MB. While I prefer my Canon Digital Rebel SLR camera for overseas travel, this A580 is perfect for city shots, candids of friends or family, and as a backup camera. I would recommend this camera without hesitation.

There are many ways to learn digital photography, the most obvious one being practice, but there are also less obvious choices... like the title of this article for example: "online digital photography training".

Learning how to take good pictures with a digital camera can be a hard task to accomplish, and I guess more importantly for some people, to make (a lot) of money from them can be an even harder task.

But now after the huge thing called the internet, learning digital photography online has never been easier.

Getting a mentor

There are many ways actually, to go through online digital photography training, for example you could hire someone to teach you personally, basically a mentor... but that would probably run you dollars up in four figures.

Another way to learn digital photography is...

Taking online classes

Similar to the previous option, except not only you get coached and you do it together (virtually, that is) with an entire class. Unfortunately, we sometimes end up with prints that look foggy, blurry, and painted with a mixture of light -- that look nothing like the fireworks we had viewed. Here's the great news -- making the photos better is simple if you follow a few tips.

Lights, camera, action

Turning the independence holiday into a memorable event is easier than you think. Check out these strategies for taking some fabulous fireworks photos.

#1 Don't overexpose your picture.

Photos have a unique quality when it comes to fireworks: you should take them at a precise moment. If your camera is set to snap the photo in the wrong number of seconds, you'll lose the shot you were looking for and end up with a smoky, blurry mess. Manually set your camera to snap in 1.6 seconds. You'll catch the vibrant burst you were looking for and the film will display it beautifully.

#2 Use a tripod.

Fireworks aren't just about glorious light in the sky. They're also about the movement of the lights. Handheld cameras lack the ability to stay still long enough to depict the firework in its true form. A tripod helps you hold steady and get the shot you were aiming for.

#3 Lose the flash.

Many of us may see the flash as an assistant during dark photos. Unfortunately, the flash won't do anything for a fireworks shot. Leave the flash turned off during all of your fireworks photo snapping.

#4 Use low ISO.

Taking photos of fireworks is much different than it is for most other picture subjects. The best part of the snapshot is the color embedded with the look of falling fire stars. To make this come out beautifully on your photos, your ISO (i.e. light sensitivity) needs to be low. I recommend that you manually change your ISO to the speed of 100 to help your camera better portray the air show in the dark.

#5 Don't trust your camera's automatic features.

I know what you're thinking. You bought that camera because of all of the automatic features it boasts and you'd like to use them. Well, for fireworks photos, cameras don't detect the light properly and usually end up taking photos that come out blurry and overexposed. Try the manual settings on your camera and your shots will be clearer.

This Fourth of July, pull your camera out and try some of these tips. You'll have some gorgeous memories of the fireworks in the night sky.

Looking to take amazing photographs of fireworks this 4th of July? Just follow these tips and tricks! So sit back and enjoy this Velocity Micro review, and hopefully afterward you'll find you are closer to a decision for or against Velocity Micro.

Power:10/10
Simply put, I've never seen any company put together such monstrous PCs. Velocity Micro's top end system allows for as much power as you can possibly afford, period. You probably won't find stronger gaming PCs. That's really all I can say about the subject.

Form: */10
Possibly my biggest problem with Velocity Micro computers is their look. I don't really care for the plain metal box look. I suppose if you want something less flashy, it's nice enough. And they do allow for some interesting options.

So rather than giving out an arbitrary number on something I don't personally care for but that others might, I'll just leave it to the reader to determine if Velocity Micro's style is their cup of tea.

Customer Service: 9/10
The reason is is a 'Velocity Micro Review' and not a 'Velocity Micro Computer Review'....and possibly the most important part of my review of Velocity Micro, for that matter. Velocity Micro has some pretty nice options available.

You pay extra if you want their warranty for more than a year, but being able to get on-site service is well worth it, in my opinion. And you get a year of warranty, 24/7 emergency support, and On-site support for free. And for about $150 a year, you can up it to two, three, or four years. Considering how much you'll already me spending, that seems like a damn good deal to me.

Yeah, that sounds kind of ominous, eh? The only problem with Velocity Micro is the

Cost: A Lot
Maxing out a Velocity Micro system with all the bells and whistles can break ten grand. Easy. The new Lumix DMC-FX3 6-megapixel digital camera features a Leica DC lens with an f2.8 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35-105mm on a 35mm film camera), Mega O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer), and a high-sensitivity mode with a maximum ISO of 1600. Panasonic has long led the industry with its incorporation of an optical image stabilization system--Mega O.I.S.--into even its compact range of cameras. This system produces no deterioration of picture quality, and image stabilization has now become a standard feature for all digital cameras in the market. Now the new DMC-FX3 also benefits from a High Sensitivity mode, which allows shooting at a maximum sensitivity setting of ISO 1600. (Resolution significantly decreases in High Sensitivity mode.) This mode acts as another anti-blurring measure, in addition to the Mega O.I.S. system, by suppressing image blur which can be caused by the movement of subjects, and especially benefits indoor photography of children and pets at fast shutter speeds. For the image processor, the Venus Engine Plus LSI is incorporated for high-performance image processing, both in terms of speed and image quality, while still preserving low energy consumption. Another feature that elevates the DMC-FX3 is the incorporation of 13.5 MB of built-in memory, while the battery life is long enough to shoot up to 320 pictures (CIPA) on one charge, ensuring that you do not miss those great spur-of-the-moment shots. In addition, motion images can be taken in even wide VGA in addition to the normal VGA format so that you can enjoy dynamic viewing on wide aspect TVs.

Tip 1: Miss the eyes and you've missed the shot. Getting the eyes in focus is key to capturing a photo of an animal. It's human nature to look at the eyes. It's how we determine emotion and how we connect. When I was in Homer, Alaska, I came across a moose on the move. Given it was early morning and the light was low I knew getting a fast shutter speed to freeze his movement would be tough, so I quickly adjusted my camera to lock the focus on his eyes, and took the shot. The majority of the picture was a bit blurry, but because the eyes are in focus, the shot was saved.

Tip 2: Use a telephoto lens. Getting closer to the action, yet staying a safe distance, is the key to photographing wildlife. By keeping your distance you allow the animal to be in their comfort zone and are more likely to get natural behavior. Safety is also a factor when photographing in the wild. Always keep at least 100 yards distance from wildlife, for your safety and for the well being of the animals. Another good use for a telephoto lens is a trick not many people know, which comes in very handy when photographing animals in the zoo that are behind fencing. If you move close to the fence (keep a safe distance) and use at least 100mm of your telephoto lens, focusing beyond the fence, with a wide aperture, you can "focus out" the fencing and take a photo of the subject with no wires! Now, there are some exceptions, such as, if the fencing is black youll have a much better chance of pulling this off. Regular chain link fence is gray and semi-reflective, which in the sunlight can cause a glare and is often too bright to focus out. Ive also had some successes at trying different angles, so experiment for your best results. I often shoot with a Canon 100-400mm IS USM and a Canon 28-300mm IS USM. If you're new to telephoto lenses, on a budget and not sure what to get, I suggest the Tamron 28-300mm or a Sigma 70-300mm. I've also had great results with the Sigma 50-500 which, as of this writing, I consider to be the best bang for the buck. These lenses all work with teleconverters of 1.4x and 2.0x so you can easily extend your reach even further, often while keeping auto-focus (with Canon L lenses, a minimum aperture of 4.0 or less will support auto-focus. Above that a manual focus is your only option.)

Tip 3: Use a wide aperture. Learning the effects of adjusting your camera's aperture will go a long way toward improving your photographs, especially in portrait style shooting. In a photo of a grazing elk I shot in Yellowstone, I chose a very wide aperture to blur out a potentially busy background and bring attention to the subject instead. As you learn to control your camera you'll also find that adjusting your aperture will have a direct effect on your shutter speed. This will prove especially helpful when shooting in the early mornings and late evenings, when animals are typically most active and the light is warm and muted.

Tip 4: Adjust your shutter speed to stop/show the action. When animals are on the move you need to decide quickly on the type of shot you want to take. If you want to freeze the action, you'll need to shoot at 1/500 or faster and depending on light, that can be tricky. One option, if you're shooting digital, is to adjust up your ISO, which will make your sensor more sensitive to light and give you that needed boost in shutter speed. Now, if you want to give a sense of motion to your image, try shooting with a shutter speed of 1/4 to 1/8 and pan your camera with the animal. Pan steady and remember, keep the eye in focus if you can! For best results, pick backgrounds that are uncluttered and simple, as this will make the subject standout in the image.

Tip 5: Use a flash to fill in shadows. It may sound odd, but using a flash outside on a bright sunny day actually makes a lot of sense. In this situation, you're not using the flash to illuminate the subject, as you would in a dark setting, but rather to fill in the shadows and provide detail where harsh shadows would otherwise be heavy and dark. It's important to use flash wisely and here are a couple of other suggestions:

Be conscious of the animal and whether flash will scare them and,

There are times where your only shoot is through glass -- using a flash behind glass will ruin your shot. The glass will reflect the light back at the camera and you shouldn't be surprised if all you get is a big white picture!

Tip 6: Plan for the best light. There's nothing like a cloudy day to provide soft, even light for wildlife photography. Clouds act like a giant diffuser to the sun, spreading the light out evenly and taking away harsh shadows that are created by a bright, sunny day. Of course, a cloudy day has its challenges as well, such as lower light, which will force you to adjust ISO and shutter speed settings for stopping action and getting sharp, in focus images.

Tip 7: Composition - Framing your shots. Some simple framing advise can go a long way toward improving an image, and for those who are computer savvy, a little trick called cropping (software technique to cut a photo) can help improve composition that wasn't quite right at the time the photo was taken. The best way to think about composition is to picture a tic-tac-toe grid in the view finder of your camera (I've seen some new cameras that come with this as a feature you can turn on!) and use that grid to organize your shots. There is no hard rule, but the general theory behind good composition is that your subject lies in one of the crosshairs of the grid. Setting up your shot to lead the eye is also a good example of composition.

Tip 8: Shoot with two eyes. This is a tip I'm sharing here, but often have a hard time remembering myself. I can't tell you how many shots I've missed because I didn't see the action coming. By keeping both eyes open you'll see the subject in the viewfinder and you'll also see what's going to happen next.

Tip 9: Anticipate behavior. This tip goes well with Tip 8, shoot with both eyes, because anticipating behavior is often key to capturing a rare moment, action and unique situations. Panning the camera to follow an animal can be a tiring process, so often I'll study the animal's behaviors watching for a pattern and then use some anticipatory shooting, and a little luck, to hopefully capture that perfect moment.

Tip 10: Use a tripod. Using a tripod is one of the best things you can do to improve your photography, and wildlife is no different. By mounting your camera to a tripod you reduce camera shake, which is usually the cause of blurry photos. To take this a step further, I use a shutter release cable, which eliminates the need to touch the camera while snapping shots and thus removes almost all potential for camera shake.

Bonus Tip: Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. This tip is a no-brainer for those of us who shoot digital. Shooting digital is cheap -- technology is advancing so quickly that, as of this writing, a 4 gigabyte memory card is selling for less than $100 and you can get A LOT of photos on a 4 gig memory card. The bottom line of this tip is take photos....a lot of photos. Don't be shy. I often take multiple photos of the same scene or subject and then later choose the best from the group. This is also a great way to learn; by adjusting your camera between shots you can experiment and see the results of different settings of your camera. And, don't sweat the details of trying to remember which photo had which settings...another great thing about shooting digital is something called EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format). EXIF data is written to every photo so that later, upon review, you can see every setting your camera used to take that image.

= = =

Stephen Oachs spends every chance he gets looking through the viewfinder of his cameras. I wanted enough "power" to be able to see interesting things without needing to set up a telescope. I researched and read a lot before making the purchase. The binoculars are great! The stabilization makes it possible to get a clear, shake-free view. So far I have been enjoying Jupiter and its moons, double stars, star clusters, and even some Messier objects. As a treat, various meteors flash across, and satellites too faint to see with the naked eye travel by. Even in my light polluted backyard, the binoculars are providing some very satisfying viewing. They are a bit heavier than regular binoculars, but are not uncomfortable, especially if I brace my elbows against my body or the arm of my chair.
Customer Review: Great
I have had these for a few years now, and they still work great. I use them mostly for keeping an eye on the world outside my office window. They are a bit heavy, and they go through batteries fast. Get NiMH AA rechargeables and you'll be glad you did. One oddity - they do not come with objective lens caps, so if you keep them outside their case, it's best to store them standing on the objective end. Luckily they are very stable this way on a table or shelf.

Sony has done it again putting out another top quality product with the release of the Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-46V4100 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. I highly recommend you read the manual that came with your camera before you start taking photos. Some digital cameras are not user-friendly and can be tricky. Generally when you are beginning, you can use the automatic settings that your camera provides. The auto settings are usually on a dial on the upper right-hand side of your camera on most consumer based cameras.

The most common auto-setting options are:

Close-ups

Portraits

Landscapes

Action

Slow Shutter

Bright Light

Refer to your camera manual for what each of these settings do. Once you understand the auto settings and feel comfortable going into manual mode, your camera will have settings for this also. Once in manual mode you will need to understand how to set your aperture and shutter speed. This will be important for correct exposure. Generally in low light settings you should use a slower film speed. Most digital cameras these days have settings for your ISO. This is your film speed. In low light you should set your camera to 200 or lower if your camera is capable of doing so. This will ensure the least amount of grain in the final photo. In brighter settings you can set your ISO to 400 or above. If you are shooting action shots like sports, you may want to try out higher settings like 800 ISO. This will ensure you capture the action.

Photography Tip #3: What to take pictures of?

When starting out, it is good practice to take photos of things around the house. I suggest using a variety of objects, with different size, color and shape. I've even gone to yard sales and picked up interesting vases, antiques, old books, dolls, and much more. Fruit is also an easy subject because there are so many varieties and colors. Once you have a decent amount of objects to practice with, try making some nice arrangements. Once you are satisfied, setup your camera on a tripod or hand-held is okay as well. Don't worry about lighting at this point, just make sure you have enough light to see the setup well enough. Position yourself about 3-5 feet away from you subject. Try taking a few photos at several different angles.

Here are a few angles to try:

Close-up

Medium zoom

No Zoom

Bird's eye view (high and angled

Straight on( directly toward center with no angle)

From the Left

From the Right

From the bottom looking up (ant's eye view)

Rotate your camera 90 degrees

Rotate your camera to 45 degrees (straight by slightly turned)

Zoom in to an object, but focus on the background

Zoom into an object, but focus on the foreground

Zoom into an object, and focus on the object.

Doing these actions will help you become more familiar with your camera and help you begin to understand how to be more creative with your shots. If you don't feel like taking photos of garage sale junk or fruit, try going outside and doing the same exercise with natural objects. If you have an animal, cat, dog, or bird, you can do the same with them. Pets are great because when they move around, it will train your skills to be quicker. If they are more casual and sit still, it allows you to experiment a bit more with your camera angles and settings.

Photography Tip #4: Lighting your subject.

To impress anyone with a photograph, make sure you have good lighting. There is nothing worse than taking a family photo only to have shadows on everyone's faces, or dark spots under their eyes from improper lighting. If you have a basic consumer camera, the flash isn't that powerful and usually only works for closer images. Your flash may work better in darker settings, but during the day most basic built-in flashes are not capable of removing shadows from over 7 feet away. The best way to avoid heavy shadows is to be aware of the time of day if you are shooting outside. Time of day and lighting can vary per state and country, but generally at high noon the sun is the highest in the sky, so that means your subjects will be lit from directly above. This causes harsh shadows in the eye sockets and under the nose. It's generally not an attractive look. Late at night with a basic flash is not the most pleasant thing either because it is straight on. Your subjects will have the "Deer in the Headlights" look, not so good either. The best way to avoid these situations is put yourself in the place of the subject. How would you want to look? Like a superstar, right?

The best times to shoot photos of people are late in the afternoon when the sun is warm, glowing and almost down. In California where I am at, this is usually around 4 or 5pm. If you are an early bird, you can get up early in the morning as the sun begins to rise, you can get the same soft glowing effect. If you don't have a choice, and you have to shoot in the middle of the day try to find a good shady spot for your subjects. If it is a tree you find, ensure there are not any random bits of light sneaking through the leaves onto your subjects face. Having blotchy shadows on your face is not attractive either. If you are taking photos of people, try to get close enough that your flash does work. Most people like upper body to close-up shots anyway. A good way to get better with your lighting is to buy a foam head. You can get these online and sometimes at wig shops if they have extras. This way you have a foam person to practice with and won't insult anyone. You don't have to get a fancy kit for this. Grab a couple lamps from around the house and position them a bit differently around the subject to find the most attractive light.

Photography Tip #5: Focus is key to good photography.

Have you ever seen a photo that could have been really great, but the focus was all wrong? Bad focus is fairly common and sometimes completely ignored. There is nothing worse than a really good photo with bad focus. You may not know this but focusing on the right subject in a photo can dramatically change the emotion of the photo. When you are getting ready to fire your camera, stop and think about what you are actually trying to capture. Have you ever tried to take a photo of a beautiful forest only to find out in the actual photo it just looks like a pile of sticks?

Or maybe you have tried to take a picture of a friend in a crowded place and they don't even stand out. Focus is a major part of the photo and should be carefully crafted like the rest of the photo. When shooting photos of people, you can zoom in about 30 or 40% and get in a little closer, about 3-5 feet away. This will cause the background to blur a bit, making the focus on the subject. If you are standing too far away and do not zoom, the entire composition will be in focus. Depth of field is important. You want your photos to have a foreground, mid-ground and background. You won't always have a foreground especially if you are doing close-up photos, but making sure your background and subject are clearly defined.

For more photography tips and tricks visit: http://www.photoshopdemos.com

Aaron Cox is the founder of PhotoshopDemos.com, a site dedicated to teaching Photoshop and Photography methods.
Golf GPS

Posted by cannon-digital-cameras at 6:10 AM No comments:

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

Tamron offers a lightweight, compact, high-image-quality telephoto zoom lens with macro capability of 1:2 that can be used with digital cameras. Even fully zoomed in, pictures come out wonderful. Compared to the price for the Canon lens, this is quite a bit cheaper, but not cheap at all. We were actually surprised how heavy this lens is, especially compared to the kit lens that came with the Canon Rebel XT we purchased. I'd highly recommend this for those wanting longer distance, but also wanting to save some money.
Customer Review: Awesome for anyone who isn't a pro or semi-pro
I love this lens. Now, maybe if I was a better photographer and not one with only a year and a half worth of experience, I might change my mind. But I have taken about 300 pictures over the week I have had the lens (went on vacation) and very happy with it. Negative such as slow or tough to focus in low light hasn't been a problem. Maybe it is slow, but unless I was taking action shots, it didn't seem slow at all. And it focused well in low lights - no problems there. As I have learned about telephoto lenses, they take some adjustment. I had a lot of blurry photos at first, but slower ISO and/or increased aperture has helped me not have any problems without a tripod. Photos are crisp, colors are great. I can't think of anything negative to say. The macro setting is interesting and still figuring it out - but works well. When you utilize the power of this simple strategy, you'll be able to casually say 'Getting traffic is easy' just like all the other top-notch marketing gurus out there.

Wouldn't you like to bring thousands of targeted customers to your site on a regular basis just like them?

If you've been wondering how you can also get the same kind of impressive traffic, then SEO article writing is definitely the way to go.

Let's begin by taking a look at what isn't. It isn't about writing articles on your topic endlessly and submitting them to various article directories with the 'hope' that 'someone' will see them and arrive at your site. It's about writing articles effectively, that you 'know' your 'customers' will find even before you start writing it. So how do you write a killer article that's guaranteed to draw in those hungry customers like bees to honey and have them thank you for it?

To understand SEO article writing you'll have to understand a bit about keyword research. People enter specific keywords when they search for information on any topic. For instance if you want to buy a new canon camera, you'd probably be searching for reviews on it to find a good model. Maybe you'd type in 'canon camera reviews' and read whatever comes up.

How much money do you think is waiting to come to you, if you write an article around those keywords?

Potential customers will find your articles and be more willing to buy those cameras through any link you might provide, since they see you as an expert sharing helpful information on the subject.

SEO article writing is all about writing keyword-rich optimized articles that will rank in the top search engine results for specific searches. These keywords won't have as many competing pages, making the chances of your customers finding you far more likely.

The lazy way to get it all done fast would be to hire an experienced ghostwriter to do the writing. After you have gone to all of the effort to create a beautiful painting or photograph, you will want to ensure that it is beautifully preserved for many years to come. There are, however, several ways that artwork can become damaged. Exposure to heat or cold, water, dirt, dust, pollution, and light can all play a part in causing the artwork to lose its luster. There are steps artists can take to protect your artwork from damage, and it comes down to your choice of picture framing supplies.

Temperature changes can distress your artwork held within a frame. Variations of heat and cold can cause artwork to expand and contract. Because of this movement, a piece of art can buckle within a frame, which can wreak havoc with the surface of the artwork. One way to prevent this from happening is to consider using framing supplies such as photo corners when mounting the art to the mount board. Because these corners are not permanently attached to the mount board, they offer a bit of give and take when the art is moving due to temperature fluctuations, and can lengthen the life of the artwork.

Another condition damaging to artwork is when water builds up inside a framed piece of art. If the artwork is in direct contact with the glazing, the resulting water from high atmospheric humidity levels can mar the surface of the art. Even if it is not in contact because a mat board separates it, nevertheless the combination of water with pollutants, dirt and dust can create acids harmful to your artwork, which can also cause deterioration in wood picture frames. This problem can be lessened by the use of acid-free framing supplies, including the mat board, method of adhesion of the art to the mount board, and the mount board itself.

Light that plays on your artwork can also be a source of damage. Ultra violet light rays can be harmful to photographs and other types of artwork, because they can cause the art to fade. If your artwork is placed near a window, this is an important consideration. In order to prevent light damage, many artists use acrylic glazing framing supplies. Although glass, a common glazing material, is strong and scratch resistant, acrylic framing supplies can be infused with a matte finish to reduce glare on the artwork's surface. It also comes in a form that resists ultra violet light penetration, which also helps to preserve the artwork within.

Susan Slobac is an avid photographer Susan believes a picture frame is more than just fashion; it's a safeguard for something you love.
Golf GPS

Posted by cannon-digital-cameras at 2:43 AM No comments:

Saturday, November 15, 2008

Canon Waterproof Cases For The PowerShot A710 Is - ug - odel WP-DC6 Miscellaneous Accessories

Compatible with the Powershot A710 IS
Waterproof to 130'
Clear polycarbonate construction
Housing accesses all camera functions
Small enough to use for other sporting activities like skiing or fishing
Includes neck and wrist straps, LCD monitor hood and silicone grease for waterproof seal

The Intuos3 tablet is perfect for photographers, designers, artists, illustrators, digital camera owners, high school and higher-education students. Size 8-1/2 x 11", printed double-sided, folded in thirds. This is a one-of-a-kind CheatSheet for the Canon Digital Rebel XSi/450D digital camera. If you own this camera you know what an amazing device it is. But who can remember all of those functions?? This CheatSheet is like having the manual on a card - but better! It's a concise summary of what's in the manual. It's is an "easy to take with you", invaluable quick reference. It's printed in full color on both sides of a full-sheet of paper that's laminated with a light 3-mil laminate and is folded in thirds. When folded it's about 4" x 8 3/4" so it stores easily. Laminated, waterproof and very sharp and clear, this is a very high quality product. Covered topics include: *** Battery Info *** Manual Focus *** Memory Card Formatting *** Color Spaces *** Power-Off settings *** Viewfinder Reference *** Automatic Sensor Cleaning *** LCD Reference *** Manual Sensor Cleaning *** Playback Modes *** Live View Shooting *** Playback Menu Options *** Camera Settings Summary Info *** Metering Modes *** Error Code Handling *** Picture Styles and Settings *** Image Review *** Exposure Modes *** Eyeglass Adjustment *** Scene Modes *** Image Size Settings *** Drive Mode *** Image Quality Settings *** Self Timer *** Compact Flash Card Reminder *** Exposure Compensation *** Filename Numbering *** ISO Equivalencies *** Built-In Flash Modes *** Blur Control *** Red-Eye Reduction *** Exposure Bracketing (AEB) *** Flash Exposure Compensation *** Exposure Lock (AE Lock) *** Flash Exposur Lock *** Mirror Lockup *** Custom Settings Reference *** White Balance Settings *** Focus Modes *** White Balance Correction *** AF Area Selection *** White Balance Bracketing *** Focus Lock *** Maximum Burst Info
Customer Review: OK, But One Glaring Error
This cheat sheet contains pretty helpful information, and can be folded to fit inside your camera bag for quick reference while on a photoshoot. However, there is one glaring error which leaves me wary of the other information: the CheatSheet repeatedly refers to the "CF Card", which is incorrect. The Canon Digital Rebel EOS XSi uses SD or SDHC cards, not CF cards, which were used by the camera's predecessors.

With the release of the iPod touch 32GB in September 2007, Apple again shook the world with a new masterpiece. Some people were very sceptical because they already owned an iPhone which seemed to offer the same applications but without the phone features such as Bluetooth or a camera. So why would it be interesting to buy iPod touch 32GB?

First of all Apple features again its revolutionary multi touch user interface. Besides the two control switches, one power switch and one Home button, everything else can be accessed via this touch screen. It is safe to say that whatever interest or hobby you have there is most likely a DVD out there based on it such as if you are a fan of sporting history, whether it is football, cricket, golf or even NFL American football games you are guaranteed to be able to find DVDs based on major events that have happened within these sports no matter how long ago they happened.

Special interest DVDs refer to any DVDs that are based on a specific area of interest such as documentaries, war/military, transport, music and comedy as well as health and well being. To many people however finding these DVDs is often difficult, which is why there are now many websites available that sell these special interest DVDs at competitive prices. Through these special interest DVD websites you are now able to gain access to rare and collectable DVDs, sometimes which are currently not available in the UK by any other means. These special interest DVD websites allow you access to the newest and oldest as well as the best DVDs within a specific subject area so if you are a fan of comedy you will have access to material by classic comedians such as the Marx brothers, Monty python Laurel and Hardy as well as all of the carry on films or if you are a fan of more modern comedians such as Frankie Boyle, Russell Howard, Hugh Dennis, Jimmy Carr and Bill Bailey. The special interest area of comedy observes the deficiencies, foibles, and frustrations of life, providing merriment and a momentary escape from day-to-day life.

Another example of a special interest DVD area that gets a lot of attention is documentaries. The special interest area of documentaries is a broad category of visual expression; it identifies a filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception that is continually evolving and is without clear boundaries. When it comes to documentaries analysts have noted that this film genre has become increasingly successful with films such as Bowling for Columbine, Super Size Me, Fahrenheit 9/11 and march of the penguins.

Whatever special interest DVD genre you are interested in you are guaranteed to find what you are looking for on the Internet. Special interest DVD websites will cater for all of your needs and will include DVDs from both current and past experiences.

For a DVD in your specific area of interest visit Special Interest, the best site around for all of your Special Interest DVDs.

Please feel free to republish this article provided a working hyperlink remains to our site
Canon D20

Posted by cannon-digital-cameras at 3:51 AM No comments:

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

SanDisk SDSDH-2048-901 2 GB Ultra II Secure Digital Memory Card ( US Retail Package )

Ultra II Secure Digital (SD) Card - 2GB SanDisk Ultra II memory cards feature faster performance, greater storage capacities, and better dependability, so you can get the most from your investment in a feature-rich, high-quality digital camera or camcorder. Now youre standing in front of a display of more film that youve ever seen. All you want to do is take some great family photos but you dont know where to start. Heres short guide to help you get started.

Film speed is a number that represents the films sensitively to light. The higher the number the more sensitive to light, in that the less light is needed to take a well exposed photo. The number is also an indicator of the detail you will receive from the negative. The higher the number the more likely that youll see a graininess to the print when enlarged. Film speed goes from 25 to 1600 speed film.

25 to 200 Best for still life and portrait work, in studio conditions where the lighting is controlled. This is not the film for family shots indoors even with a camera mounted flash. Youd really need a complete lighting set up to use this film effectively. 200 speed film is very good for outdoor sunny conditions when youre trying to get a shot of a beautiful landscape. It offers excellent detail and color saturation.

400 Considered the all purpose film. Most films touted as all subject or general purpose are really 400 speed film. When in doubt use 400 speed film. Though you may still be using your camera mounted flash in room lighting conditions. Also good for outdoor conditions, will give you some flexibility in darker conditions and where you are trying to capture a moving subject.

800 to 1200 Made for capturing fast moving subjects in all types of lighting situations. People running, playing ball, etc. This is the film you want if you want to freeze frame the action of a baseball game. This film speed can be used for capturing fast moving wildlife, like birds, but you will see less detail if you enlarge above a 16 by 20 size.

1600 This film is for super high speed shots. Unless you shooting a car or boat race you probably wont need this film. Dont use this for nature and landscape images the lack of detail will be obvious in enlargements.

Most of the time youll only need a 400 speed film for basic snapshots. But it doesnt hurt to use the other speeds for special occasions, youll notice a difference.

Copyright 2004 Kelly Paal Kelly Paal is a Freelance Nature and Landscape Photographer, exhibiting nationally and internationally. It has been very easy to use and a great learning tool. As with any camera, the lens makes a big difference in the photographs you take. The lens this comes with is okay for a generic starter, but you will quickly want to invest in a more high-end one based upon the type of photography you want to do. It is compatiable with the older Canon lenses, so that has been a plus.
Customer Review: Canon EOS 20D 8.2MP Digital SLR Camera
Even with all the new cameras out there in the market, I still love my Canon EOS 20D. Unless I accidentally drop it and break it, it is still the camera of choice for me. But if you are buying one for the first time, shop around, there are some nicer cameras, for less than what I paid for this one, that work just a good if not better.

Of course you can!

The Garmin Nuvi 350 is perfect for geocaching in soooooo many ways:

It is very accurate. And that's the name of the geocaching game. You want to be able to find your target, be it wedged in a tree, tucked behind a hedge, or swinging from a shop sign.

It is extremely sensitive. The Garmin 350 will retain its satellite lock and continue showing you the way even if you go under trees, even if you have to stow it in your bag.

It is small - fits nicely in the hand. It is lightweight. So it's very comfortable to carry with you as you zero in on your geocache.

The screen is a good size, the display is very clear. It is very easy to read.

The Garmin 350 displays easy-to-understand information with detailed 2D and 3D maps and up to 500 way points.

If you already have one, there's no learning curve - you already know how to use it. If you don't have one, the learning curve is extremely shallow. This GPS is very easy to figure out.

The Garmin 350 is primarily designed as a driving gps - to help you drive to where you're going. And it is stellar at doing that. So, if you need to drive for part of your route, the Garmin 350 has that covered. Once on foot, you switch to 'Pedestrian' mode and again, this 350 GPS does a fabulous job.

So for geocaching, the Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS is very capable. It does the finding very well indeed. However, 3 things make it less than ideal for geocaching:

It's not waterproof. You're very likely to get wet while out on your hunts. Unless of course you live and hunt in the dessert. Plastic bags and boxes can give some protection, but really you want the gps to be waterproof to be sure you don't kill it.

Battery life. While driving with Garmin 350, there is no power problem because you plug it into the car lighter and use car juice. When you stop, however, you then have about 5 hours or so before you need to recharge. And of course you don't want your gps dying on you. This wouldn't be a problem - maybe just a minor inconvenience - if you could simply take some spare batteries with you. But you can't. Not with the 350.As you can see, this severely limits how far you can go from the car. The battery life could also take away some of the most attractive things about geocaching - such as being able to explore new places further. Such as, having discovered somewhere amazing, being able to decide right there on the spot to stop and enjoy it. With the 350 you're on the clock.

Robustness. I don't know how robust the Garmin350 is. The thing is, the more geocaching you do, the more the GPS will get knocked about. I don't know how it will fare. I just don't get the impression it will do well.

Conclusion

Your Garmin Nuvi 350 can find geocaches. No question about that.

I would not recommend you use it for geocaching in the long term. If you are starting out and want to do a couple of mostly urban, in-town geocache hunts to see if you like it, then do go ahead. Think about protecting the GPS, though.

For regular, more intrepid off-road geocaching, it's a much better economy to simply buy another GPS that is waterproof, robust, and either has long battery life or batteries that can be changed.

Here are some top quality, high value GPS that fulfill all these geocaching requirements => http://www.squidoo.com/BestGeocachingGPS

And here are a few basic items you can use to protect your Garmin 350 when using it for geocaching => http://www.squidoo.com/GarminNuvi350Review
Electric Mower

Posted by cannon-digital-cameras at 11:43 PM No comments:

  Newer Posts Older Posts Home

Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)

   window['__wavt'] = 'AOuZoY56Mq5NB_Ik7BSsN74AfgxWdzaLEw:1713899635054';_WidgetManager._Init('//draft.blogger.com/rearrange?blogID\x3d2673418647348102583','//cannon-digital-cameras-1.blogspot.com/2008/11/','2673418647348102583');
